Googie Style Architecture – Back to the Future

Googie architecture emerged in the US in the 50s, built on the spread of suburban America and the massive increase in car ownership that followed WWII. A space age, modern style of architecture that symbolised the excitement, energy and prosperity of 1950s America emerged as part of an effort to attract consumers as they drove by. Douglas Haskell, editor of ‘House and Home’ magazine, announced this new style as "Modern Architecture Uninhibited... an art in which anything and everything goes – so long as it’s modern".
